Falling Leaf is a distinctive project that transforms a classic 1970s A-frame cabin nestled in the picturesque mountains of Idyllwild into a modern retreat for our client's friends and family, or a serene escape from urban life when solitude is desired. The renovation encompasses a comprehensive overhaul, blending contemporary design elements with the cabin's rustic charm.

The main focus of the project is to create a versatile gathering space that seamlessly integrates indoor and outdoor living. A fully redesigned wraparound deck featuring a luxurious hot tub invites relaxation amidst the tranquil mountain landscape, while strategically placed large glass windows flood the interior with natural light and offer panoramic views of the surrounding forest.

Inside, the cabin’s lower level features social activity areas, including a kitchenette, arcade games area, and a unique sunken conversation pit, fostering memorable gatherings among guests. The upper levels have been meticulously redesigned to include a fully modernized kitchen, bathrooms, and a signature open staircase, serving as both a functional element and a central architectural feature.

In line with contemporary sustainability practices, Falling Leaf incorporates energy-efficient upgrades and solar technology, ensuring off-grid capability without compromising on comfort or convenience. Small balconies on the upper floors further enhance the indoor-outdoor connection, providing additional space to appreciate the breathtaking natural surroundings. Falling Leaf stands as a testament to the transformative power of thoughtful design, turning a quaint yet outdated 1970s mountain cabin into a high-performance 21st-century retreat that epitomizes comfort, sustainability, and connection to nature.
